Cutting Edge

In a conversation with Douglas Kerr, Chief Medical Officer at Dyne Therapeutics and her son-in-law, Sinikka learned how Dyne is developing a platform to deliver genetic medicines to patients with diseases of the muscles and nerves. He showed her a picture of this platform, which uses a protein that binds to the surface of cells in the body to bring the genetic therapy into the cells.  Sinikka's mind began to consider the artistic possibilities around this cutting edge therapy, and this sculpture is the result. The red and blue parts of the sculpture represent the protein delivery vehicle attaching to the cell, represented by the wheel at the top of the sculpture. All around and inside the cell are colorful depictions of the genetic therapy being delivered into the cell.
